In a previous post I reported favourably on my experience with refillable ink cartridges. Unfortunately this didn’t last. On first use they were fine, but as soon as I had to take one out and refill it, I started getting problems with blocked nozzles (i.e. lines across the print). After conversations with the supplier it seems that this was caused by air getting into the system and it was suggested that it was down to my handling. This may be so but I thought I had followed the instructions and been very careful. After messing around for about 2 weeks without getting a fault-free print I’ve decided it’s just too unreliable, and bought a set of ordinary disposable cartridges. As soon as I put them in the blockages disappeared and I’m getting fault-free prints. So this has been a rather expensive learning experience.
I’m now trying ink from ‘Think’, supplied by Choice Stationary Supplies. The first high quality photo prints look pretty good – certainly OK for everyday printing, and once I’ve made printer profiles they should be fine for exhibition work. As before, only time will tell if they are long-lasting.
